Artist Statement

     My work traces a path through memory, material, and the contrasts that shape everyday life. My materials are primarily graphite or pen-and-ink sketches that serve as inspiration and lead into acrylic paintings. I like to try everything I can get my hands on, combining whatever materials are available in the moment. In these modestly scaled works, my subjects are found in nature—landscapes and abstracted images of plants, flowers, clouds, and animals. I work from real life as much as possible, sketching energetically outdoors to capture the vitality of the images. In the studio, I can be found combining or overlaying imagery in jigsaw-like pieces of texture, color contrasts, and form.      To me, objects from nature symbolize growth, environmental sustainability, and the importance of seeing the world in small, manageable details. I hope the viewer recognizes something of their own journey and pauses along the way. I approach each project as an explorat...

Beautiful flowers that thrive with little water. It was amazing to see them next to Chihuly's vibrant glass works, in either the same tones or complimentary colors. I highly recommend the Phoenix Botanical Museum.
