Artist Statement
My work traces a path through memory, material, and the contrasts that shape everyday life. My materials
are primarily graphite or pen-and-ink sketches that serve as inspiration and lead into acrylic paintings. I like
to try everything I can get my hands on, combining whatever materials are available in the moment. In these
modestly scaled works, my subjects are found in nature—landscapes and abstracted images of plants,
flowers, clouds, and animals. I work from real life as much as possible, sketching energetically outdoors to
capture the vitality of the images. In the studio, I can be found combining or overlaying imagery in jigsaw-like
pieces of texture, color contrasts, and form.
To me, objects from nature symbolize growth, environmental sustainability, and the importance of seeing
the world in small, manageable details. I hope the viewer recognizes something of their own journey and
pauses along the way. I approach each project as an exploration—an unfolding path that invites viewers to
slow down and look closely.
